Sending the Best On To District Competition
A field of 35 competitors met on a December Saturday afternoon at Forestview Middle School in Baxter for the annual Brainerd Elks Hoop Shoot. Boys and girls from numerous schools all around the BLA were on hand, but it was Pequot Lakes that left with the most hardware. The kids tested their grit in the 3 age groups to see who will advance to the Elks Central District shoot out in January at Lake Region School in Baxter

Tips for the Choir!!! Members of the Brainerd High School ACapella Choir assisted the Brainerd Elks this past year at the Crow Wing County Fair and for their efforts that receved their tips plus a donation from the Brainerd Elks for their hard work.

Each year the Brainerd Elks distribute hundreds of dictionaries to the Brainerd Lakes Area’s third grade students. The funding for this project has been through ENF Grants and additional local contributions from our members. The schools that received dictionaries were Aitkin, Baxter, Crosby, Discovery Woods Garfield, Harrison, Isle, Lake Region, Lowell, McGregor, Pillager, remer, Riverside, and St. Francis.

In 1900 the Brainerd Elks became a new organization in the Brainerd Area. This October, with the State Mid Year Convention at Breezy Point, it was a great opportunity to invite all of the Elks from around Minnesota and our communtiy for a party.

Brainerd, MN Lodge members entered the Lakes Area United Way Chili Cookoff, one of the organization's largest fundraisers of the year that help support many projects throughout the area. During the competition, the Elks booth collected additional donations for the United Way's Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program.

Brainerd, MN lodge members volunteered at the Mounted Eagles, a therapeutic horsemanship facility, during their Fun Show. Lodge members ran a concession stand, serving hotdogs and chips to participants and spectators.

Brainerd, MN Lodge members volunteered at the Brainerd Everything Outdoor Youth Expo, whose chairperson is also an Elks member. The Expo's mission is to provide an opportunity for youth to discover and experience new outdoor activities. Members assisted in many areas such as making sure attendees signed waivers, served food, helped build bird houses, as well as ran the Intro to Batters Up and Intro to the Hoop Shoot stations, and handed out prizes to the kids.

The 4th annual Batters Up, hitting contest was held on Sunday, July 20. This contest has 3 divisions which include T-Ball for 5-6 yr.olds, Girls Softball for 7-15yr.olds, and Boys Baseball for 7-15yr.olds.

Brainerd Elks Features the Batters up Challenge This Weekend in Baxter Batters Up! is a FREE hitting competition in which kids compete against other kids their age to see who is crowned champion! The event is hosted by The Brainerd Elks Lodge #615 as a family friendly activity for the local community. Noon time is registration/check in, and the compitition starts at 1pm and awards will be presented at 4pm. The Brainerd Elks Lodge #615 held a Flag Day Ceremony on June 14, 2025, starting at 4 pm. Visitors learned the history of the flag of the United States, through a presentation of the colors by the Brainerd Honor Guard and an explanation of the significance and tradition of our flags through the years. The event took place at the All-Veterans Memorial on the east lawn of the Historic Crow Wing County Courthouse at 4th and Laurel Streets in Brainerd.

Results of the local, district and state Elks Essay competetion is now public and our submissions for the Brainerd Elks lodge did quite well. Students from Forestview Middle School in Baxter and Pequot Lakes Middle School have acheived recognition.

I am pleased to announce that the Grand Lodge Fraternal Committee has selected the theme, “What Does Patriotism Mean To Me?” for the 2024-2025 Grand Lodge Americanism Essay Contest. The contest starts with the Local Lodges, progresses through District and State levels, and ends with the naming of our National Winners at the Grand Lodge Session in Kansas City, Missouri in July 2025.

Batters Up! is a FREE hitting competition in which kids compete against other kids their age to see who is crowned champion! The 16th Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner is underway. Four local organizations have come together to prepare a Thanksgiving meal for you. All orders must be completed by Monday, November 20th. There is no charge for the meal, however a free-will offering is gratefully accepted.

The Brainerd Elks Fishing Fling is returning to the Brainerd National Guard Armory on Wednesday, May 10th. The Fishing Fling event is an annual fund raiser to provide area high school students with thousands of dollars in scholarships. For $75 enjoy prizes and featured guest speaker is Dick Jonckowski.

The Brainerd Elks recently donated $2000 to Imagination Library, funding over 950 books. Several Elks also volunteered at Llama Llama Read-o-Rama, directing traffic and celebrating reading with over 180 children.
